just ride!
Just get out there a ride a horse. Ride your horse. Ride someone else's horse. But the key note is to just ride. Because there is something that hooks us. Why?
1. Love it
As a horse lover, we love our four legged friends and partners who carry us over rugged land and in the arenas. There is no feeling quite like being partnered with a furry beast 10 times our size. We enjoy the partnership and the feeling of freedom that they offer us. It is amazing.
2. Dreams
Whether or not you just want to ride to feel the wind in your hair or the sunshine on your face, or if you want to earn a medal, that horse can offer you that. They might be the underdog in the discipline, however everyone wants to try. Set your goals so you can attain them, and when you do, dream bigger. Challenge yourself.
3. Learning
Believe it or not but you never stop learning, especially when it comes to horses. You always work on that dynamic skill of riding and the horse will teach you something everyday. Challenge yourself more and take a lesson. If you don't want to have a coach come to you or travel out to a coach, try our online program. Improve yourself, improve your horse. The rewards are huge.
4. Athleticism
There is a certain aspect of being active that horsemanship requires. Horse people do not mind the activity, including the labor it takes in owning a horse. It keeps us in shape, and challenges us too watch our health, our weight, and our fitness. You may not need to be an Olympic athlete to ride, but you do not to be athletic to ride well. For more information on health, fitness, and riding, refer to the Rider Levels for calisthenics and information.
5. Socializing
Whether we just want to be with our horse or with other like-minded people, we are social creatures. We enjoy company. It's important to spend time with the horse, and for some to visit at a gathering like a show, clinic, barn, or expo, etc.
6. Labor of Love
This aspect is related to being social and loving the horse, however because owning and riding horses is a lot of work, people in this field enjoy being active. Doing the 'barn chores' becomes a duty and a habit, but it is done out of love. Horse lovers are not afraid of hard work.
7. Great outdoors
Last but not least, horse lovers are outdoorsy people. With fresh air filling our lungs, and the horses giving us that familiar scent of horse (not talking manure but talking about the smell of the horse's coat) allows us to become complete. It is good for our brains, our bodies, our hormones, and helps us feel better, and sleep better at nights.
Now, go ride!
